The flag has been changed, but that was way back in 1949, when Republic of China became People's Republic of China. The previous flag was that of Taiwan (Red flag with a blue square on the upper left section of the flag with a white sun). The red flag with 5 golden stars is the flag of PRC since 1949. There hasn't been a flag change in the last 50 years in China.
